Eric R. Schuur, Ph.D.

Dr. Schuur is a scientist, entrepreneur, and consultant with an extensive background in cutting edge research from the bench level to the clinic.  His research focuses on application of molecular information to therapeutic and diagnostic test development and utility of those products in the clinical setting.  His research has been published in leading journals on cancer pathogenesis, genomic technologies, oncology diagnostics, and information management in the life sciences.  His publications have been cited hundreds of times and he has been invited to speak at conferences on cancer biology, diagnostics, and oncology business.

At VMWA, Dr. Schuur provides leadership in consulting services on scientific strategy, clinical research, communications, and information management.  Dr. Schuur uses a hands-on approach, directly interacting with the client to develop creative, collaborative solutions to client needs.  In research strategy, Dr. Schuur advises on program design from inception through clinical development.  In communications, he focuses on publication planning and communication to relevant audiences.  In information management, he focuses on ways to help clients manage scientific knowledge, including literature surveillance and management, knowledge extraction, and information organization.  In clinical development, he assists clients in study design and analysis.  Dr. Schuur is experienced in several therapeutic areas including oncology, respiratory diseases, virology, neurology, and ophthalmology.

Dr. Schuur received his PhD in Experimental Pathology from the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University Of Southern California School Of Medicine and The Scripps Research Institute.  He has led teams in preclinical oncology product development and clinical development of medical devices.  He is an Adviser to the SPARK Program and the Stanford University School of Medicine and a Mentor for the Innovation Farm Team Program, also at Stanford University.
